Overview – What is Promyvion?

Promyvion is the area found inside the crags spread throughout Vana’diel. Also known as “The Emptiness,” the gateway into Promyvion is through the shattered telepoints found on the sides of the crag.
Besides being the focal point for the Chains of Promathia (CoP) storyline, there are a few things that attract many parties into Promyvion other than the goal of defeating the boss that can be found in the spire. The three main reasons for a “Promy” run are as follows:
1. Farming for items called Recollections which are used to synth Animas.
2. ENM (Empty Notorious Monster) battles which are much like BCNM battles with a few exceptions.
3. Battle the Promy Boss to complete a Promy run and progress through the CoP story.

Farming for Recollections – the path to getting Animas

There are three kinds of Recollections that can be obtained from drops by the monsters known as “Empties” and they, along with 2,000 Gil for his services, are synthed by Harith in the Ru’Lude Gardens into special items known as Animas. These Animas are used to have detrimental effects on the Empties giving the Party a huge advantage, these are especially useful and usually necessary to defeat the Promy Bosses. The three types of Recollections and Animas are as follows:

1. Recollection of Pain: used to create Hysteroanima
Hysteroanima is used to block an Empty from being able to use TP-Based Attacks for a period of 30-40 seconds.
2. Recollection of Fear: used to create Psychoanima
Psychoanima is used to block an Empty from being able to perform physical attacks for a period of 30-40 seconds.
3. Recollection of Guilt: used to create Terroanima
Terroanima is used to cause an Empty to panic and instead of focusing on attacking, the empty will run about in fear for a period of 30-45 seconds. Caution should be used with Terroanima as a terrified Empty is a difficult target for those utilizing their precious 2 hour abilities.

ENM Battles – Kind of like BCNM, kind of not, worth it either way.

Before getting into the details of an ECM battle here are some ground rules for these fights:
1. DO NOT use Animas or 2 Hour Abilities on ENMs. Reason: There is no EXP penalty for failing an ENM Battle, therefore try to save your best for the actual Promy Boss.
2. At the end of the battle a sphere will appear, DO NOT touch the sphere until you are sure that everyone that has been KO’ed has received raise and is close to the sphere. Reason: The sphere awards the EXP for the battle, if anyone is KO when someone touches the sphere they will not get any EXP. The EXP also has a limited range, you will miss out if you are too far away.

An ENM is essentially a BCNM fight except for the fact that they are FREE EXP attempts due to the fact that there is no EXP Penalty for defeat by an ENM, and entry is a little different. In a BCNM you need orbs obtained with beastmen's seals, EMN need a key item from certain NPCs and only one can be obtained every five Earth days. It is highly advised that at least one ENM Battle is attempted every Promy Run for three reasons.
1. EXP: 18,000 exp per ENM divided by 6 party members is 3,000 exp per ENM with no penalty for defeat. That should be reason enough. EXP will always be 3k whether you solo or have a party of 6, but if you have let's say 12, EXP will be reduced to 1,500.
2. Rare Drops: ENMs can drop some really rare items that you either may really like having or can sell for enough money to buy something you would really like.
3. Promy Boss Test: An ENM does not compare to the real boss awaiting in the spire. This fight may be what you need to practice team strategies and develop those skills of yours.

Promyvion Bosses – The End of the Line

This is the reason most people ever bother with Promy runs other then those looking for good exp and money from the previous two areas. Defeat of the boss is necessary to complete the Promy run and more importantly complete CoP Missions. These fights are not for the faint of heart however, they can either be very easy or very difficult if you are prepared or not. In the end preparation comes down to getting Animas, while it’s possible to win without the help of Animas, many parties have been smashed by Promy Bosses many times without them. Also, while you may have traveled up the spire in an Alliance, only one Party at a time can enter the Boss Area. Nevertheless, the Promy Boss is the end of the line so best of luck to you.

How to get three (3) minutes of free hits on the Promy Boss –
This isn’t my strategy as I have not done a Promy run as of yet, but it might work. All 6 party members need to have a Hysteroanima and a Psychoanima, no Terroanimas because if the boss is running all over the place we can’t really hit it. Terros are good for getting aggros away from the party on the fourth floor.

Plan the order everyone will go in before starting the fight.
1. Tank attracts Enmity from the boss and uses a Psycho, five seconds later uses a Hystero (5 seconds cause you can only do so many commands so close together).
2. When the boss regains the ability to attack, the second person uses a Psycho, five seconds later uses a Hystero.
3. Repeat step 2 until all 6 party members have used up there Animas, if done properly the Boss should just sit there for up to 3 minutes taking all the abuse that the party can dish out.

If after all the Animas are used up and the boss is still hanging on, use 2 hours as necessary to finish off the boss before he finishes you off.
As I said, no idea if this will work, better than no plan at all though, if I get a chance to see this plan in action I will post the results so the LS can have a solid battle plan to own Promyvion.
